How to live your very best life!

I was unfortunate enough to stay up pretty late last night (for me) in order to watch my team get brutally beaten by a division rival. The Eagles looked absolutely terrible against the Dallas Cowboys. But there is something to be learned by watching these athletes even while they are being battered, beaten and humiliated. Just keep going! There is a reason there are so few people who qualify to play for professional sports teams. These are the people who work harder than the

    The importance of social connections

Doesn’t this picture make you want to find a vineyard to hang out at this weekend with some tried and true girls? Or maybe it can be an opportunity to meet some new people who will possibly add a lot of value to your life. Social connections are so important for a happy life. It depends on the type of person you are but I posted an article on the Hopefulist group page detailing how people without adequate social connections died younger than people that had unhealthy lifestyl

    Get your Brave on!

This is an excerpt from “The Five Second Rule” by Mel Robbins. I used to work at the Wall Street Journal Radio network which broadcast all over the country. I was always a bit intimidated working there feeling I was in a little over my head. But there was a note hung on the wall in one of the studio’s that read….feeling panicky or nervous means that you care. That really put me at ease. It obviously meant I wasn’t the only one that felt nervous about what I was doing. It was

Don't let anxiety rule your life

I had anxiety for many years without realizing it. I knew I was uptight. I knew I took things too seriously and I thought that people were always trying to get one over on me. I felt disrespected all the time. I was mad all the time. I felt like I couldn’t do anything right and so much of what happened to me was unfair. The second time I decided to go into therapy I was hoping to tackle some issues with my mother but mostly I was stressed out at work. The new therapist I had

    Catch the moments of Greatness!

As much as we want it to be true…not every day will be the greatest day. Life is full of amazing moments and the goal is to get from one to the next as often as possible. Fill your life with days that you will remember but in between there will be ordinary days. And that’s okay! You can find greatness in the ordinary. There is a comfort to routine and habits. That is why we have them. As long as your habits are working for you instead of against you, that’s good. There are th

Find the extraordinary in every day

The last two weeks have been crazy for me. It’s been a whirlwind of awesomeness, bonding with family, relaxation, pure enjoyment and tons of fun! It started with my sister’s Ironman competition two weeks ago. She stayed in the area to visit with us for the next week. Then we all headed down to the Outer Banks to meet up with my brother and sister in law. As expected, there was a lot of food, a lot of drinks, a magnificent view and loads of laughs that we will all treasure for

    Standing up against Failure

I’ve been referencing my sister’s Ironman competition all this week since we’re all still on a high from her finish around here. It got me to thinking of all she has been through in this journey of hers. It has been quite a ride. As I’ve mentioned, she didn’t wake up one day and decide to run the next Ironman. She has worked and trained for about a year to prepare for this. And it has paid off. She feels good after that physically draining race. We went for a walk on Monday.

    Chasing your dream

Studies show it is the process of chasing a dream rather than the achievement that brings the most happiness. This is why it is so important to always have another goal to go after. It makes sense if you really think about it. Once you achieve a goal, there is a period of elation and achievement but once that wears off…what comes next? This is when you need to level up! Take the old dream up a notch or start pursuing something completely different. It depends on what your goa

The Power of watching someone realize their Dream!

I watched my sister realize her dream over the weekend. She is an Ironman! 140 miles via swim, bike and run in one day. I have to tell you…it was the longest day I’ve had in a long time so I can’t imagine what she was going through. It was dark when she started and it was dark when she finished. But she finished. And that is the only goal when it comes to Ironman. Just get across that line in the time allotted. And she had 35 minutes to spare! I’m so proud of her. Michele sta

    Hey, watch what your doing!

Do you feel like you are just going through the motions? Do you often come to the end of the day and you don’t even realize what you were doing all day? It sounds kind of silly but I think it happens to all of us a lot. Because we are often on autopilot. Especially when we have a regular routine and our daily actions seem automatic. But make sure that you stop and pay attention to what you are doing occasionally. Savor some moments through your day. I was eating my breakfast

    You get better or worse

Doesn't this picture want to make you just curl up in a scarf by a roaring fire with a good book? Pictures like this make me work harder toward what I want so I can live the type of life I choose. I want to have more cozy moments like this. As I continue down my own path in this thing we call life it occurred to me that we are either getting better or we are getting worse. And either scenario is up to you. I've been focusing on how I have been a pessimist most of my life and

    The Power of Visualization

I remember reading an article long ago about one of my favorite actresses. I think it was Reese Witherspoon and how she used the power of visualization before she got hired for a job. She would picture herself at the reading. She would picture how well she did, the looks on the producers faces, the feedback she would get. She would visualize getting the call telling her that she had gotten the part. There’s also the story of Jim Carey. Have you heard how he wrote himself a ch

    Getting your gratitude journal started

You’ve heard me tout the gratitude journal. In fact, you are probably tired of hearing me talk about it. But the thing is…it’s the number way I started to transition from a pessimist to a Hopefulist. It not only forced me to find more positive in my life to be grateful for…it literally changed my way of thinking and the way I viewed the world. I’m more convinced than ever that I can completely change a pessimist into an optimist because as I go down this path, I see how far I

    Yes, you can overcome

You are more than what has happened to you. Let that really resonate for a minute. No matter what has happened in the past or what is going on right now, you can change the ending to that story. In fact, that is the only thing you have power over at this point…how you respond to the things that have happened to you. Part of my transition away from pessimism was the realization that everyone has bad stuff happen in their lives. When I was a Debbie Downer, I was convinced that

    Dreams can change

You know your dream. You’ve been working hard, moving toward it all the time. But here is a question to ask yourself. Are you enjoying the process? Do you love what you are doing to get where you want to go? It’s so important to enjoy the process. Because that is everyday life. You have to enjoy what you do every single day (for the most part) or you may be riding down the wrong path. I remember when I first got into the radio industry, I was trying to use it as a springboard

Give yourself the credit you deserve

Today we are going to celebrate ourselves and all that we have accomplished. This isn’t an ego trip or a brag session. This is intended to be a much needed check in to remind ourselves of, not only, what we are capable of but how much we have already accomplished in our lives. It’s something that women are not good at doing. It makes us feel conceited and we aren’t supposed to brag about ourselves or our accomplishments. I’m here to tell you...that is pure B.S and I want you

    Stop delaying your happiness!

Are you falling into the trap of delaying your own happiness? Do you tell yourself that you will be happier when you lose weight, get married, have kids, buy a house? Have you gotten all those things and you are still setting barometers for your happiness? Do you now say that you will be happier when the kids schedule isn’t so crazy or they are grown, when you start making more money, when you get that promotion at work or when you get the house the way you want it? Finding Joy Every single day

There are certain topics you are going to hear me refer to often. I will sort of be repeating myself but it’s on purpose because they are certain things we need reminding of and that is what I’m all about. Being your daily dose of inspiration and positivity and helping you realize that your life is so much better than you think it is. There are certain core values that you need to hear often and I’m here to do it for you! With that said, we are going back to basics this week.

Back to Basics - It's about gratitude

Heading back to the basics this week. The number one thing you can do to improve your happiness is be grateful for what you already have. For every little thing you have. Take it from former pessimist #1, this is the key to a more satisfying life. We have to start being grateful for all of the things in our life. Not just the great, big things we all want. But all the small things that make up everyday life. The more you are grateful for what you have, trust me, the more will
